Am I missing something?

Question: When did it become cool, or even mildly acceptable to jump from NFL player to NFL player? I always assumed it was pretty frowned upon...and who wants to be the guy that follows Reggie Bush...and of course the lovely Ray J? *pause* Cant you hear the thunderous locker room jokes NOW!! I hope this is just some stupid rumor...check the link below.

Death to Text? Pt. 2

The below article sheds a more serious and disturbing light on texting and relationships. Textual Harassment...food for thought.

Bottom line: Check it out!

Death to Text? Pt. 1

As time moves on...so does the evolution of technology. We are now in the days where people seem to text just as much, if not more, than talk on the phone OR speak in person. Instead of people calling to wish you a Merry Christmas or a Happy Birthday, they text it to you (or send you a Facebook message, but that's another blog, for another day). Instead of calling into radio stations, people are texting for contests. People are even ending relationships through text...awful, I know, but it's happening. Our whole world is turning into a big ball of faceless and voiceless communication.

Now when it comes to relationships, when is it time to stop typing, and start talking? Let's face it, sometimes you just don't want to TALK to someone. It can be easy to use text to just blow someone off, type something rude, inconsiderate, or insensitive. I mean, why not? You don't have to hear or see the other person's reaction. If you did, it could weigh heavily on your conscious, you might actually feel bad or it might prevent you from saying anything at all. It seems the rules for if you don't have anything nice to say don't say anything at all, are a little bit more laxed when it comes to text messages. Oh, and how about the easy out of blaming faulty technology. You just didn't get the text story...you know AT&T's or T-Mobile's bad coverage. (Come on, we've all done it at least once). That's hard to do if someone decides to leave you a voicemail. I suppose you can deny it, but it's a lot less believable.

Things can also get lost in the "vague abyss" of a text. You might assume someone is angry or sad with how you read a particular message...all because you can't hear them or read their body language. A simple contextual "no" can lead you down the dark and dreary road of an argument...that could have possibly been avoided by simply picking up the phone. An "I'm sorry" might not seem as genuine because a person can't hear the remorse in your voice or see it in your face. Sometimes texts can come out of order, or go missing then come later...or not at all (pretty problematic for an argument). With texting, you may be prompted to assume the emotional state of the person on the other end, and we all know how great that can pan out. What a hot butt mess of possibilities, right? Why do we do it to ourselves?

How can anyone see this as an effective way to communicate real and true feelings in a relationship?

So, when it comes to that special someone, I can confidently say I'm leaning more towards a "Death of Text" attitude. Now, I'm not referring to small talk, regular mindless "what are you doing" chatter...I'm talking about during important conversations, special moments and especially, arguments. I think people are getting off easy when they don't actually have to talk AND listen. The question is: what respect could you have for another person if you refuse to actually speak to them like a human being?

If you're not careful, the sad reality is, texting can possibly ruin a promising relationship.

Bottom line: Let's get back to actually TALKING to each other and STOP hiding behind our keypads people.

♦ M-I-YA-O! ♦ (in my Rick Ross voice)

The weather was beautiful, the atmosphere was beautiful, and by that I mean the oiled up men walking up and down the strip. I even found beauty in the schmedium elevator me and the besties stuffed ourselves and luggage in at our hotel. Even though our hotel room was the size of a closet, and we always had to fight to get extra towels (thank God for the bestie who speaks some Spanish)...I wouldn't change a thing about my trip to South Beach for Memorial Day weekend.

Being aware of my body type, and not wanting to look like an idiot, I was a little uneasy about the whole bathing suit thing. Yes I had been working out, crunching, squatting, pushing, all that...but I'm just never going to be a size 2. However, I was surprised to see a lot more out of shape women walking around proudly with their stomachs hanging over their bikini bottoms. I guess I was expecting the whole vibe to be more like a Jay Z music video (insert Big Pimpin), which thus explains my paranoid and self-conscious behavior prior to the trip. But, once I arrived, I realized how ridiculous and ludicrous my previously mentioned emotions were, stopped obsessing, and enjoyed the beautiful beach.

Despite the $150 to $200 being charged for WOMEN at some of the clubs (NO, we did not even think twice about maybe paying that crazy amount), I met great people, and had an amazing time with my best friends...whom I don't get to see as often since we live on different sides of the country. We drank huge margaritas...relaxed on the beach...went to some hot spots...and then watched the sun rise.

I even got to experience a first...a strip club in Ft. Lauderdale! Ok, ok, ok, the honest truth is me and the besties got sort of tricked into going by this up and coming rapper and his entourage after we partied it up one night. We assumed that "Hey, you want to go to this after party real quick at this other club" meant we'd be going to an after party at this club, that was no further than up the street or something (duh, right). Next thing I know, we're packing in this car like sardines, and getting on the highway. I must admit, usually I'm the more free-spirited one, but I seriously thought they were driving us to our deaths, and even asked them to show mercy if they were (they thought that was pretty funny and teased me about it)....but we only ended up at this tiny strip club, that was surprisingly packed at 5 in the morning...with fully nude women walking around freely (hence strip club I guess lol).

Ultimately, the whole experience was a little much for me, and I can't say I'll be eager to EVER go to a strip club again...but the guys were surprisingly nice, humble, attentive, and protective of us... and they drove us right back to our hotel afterwards. So basically, a possible crisis diverted!

I did expect to see a few more celebrities walking the strip...but after seeing the insane cavalry that followed when Chris Brown walked by as me and the girls ate lunch...I can't imagine how it would be with a whole heap of celebs. It was also quite a sight to see all the tricked out cars with rims almost the size of me! I was surprised to see how many of them were Disney themed though. **pause**

Overall, you know it's a good trip when...you don't want it to be over....you meet fun hardworking people from all over the country and world, and establish friendships. When you're dreading the end, you know all the money spent was well worth it. ..and even have a moment where you contemplate staying just one more day -- knowing you're broke as all get out!.

Bottom line → South Beach, Miami...Memorial Day Weekend...has officially been named an every year trip by me and the besties.......at least until one of us gets married and pregnant. ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥

The dating style of the future?

Question: Can you really date/find someone to love on facebook?

Call me old fashioned, but I still find it hard to respond to people I don't know on facebook. Whether it's a friend request or a random message saying hello...I have always been uneasy about the whole thing. Most especially, I find it very difficult to respond positively to strange men who send me that general "hey, you're cute, how are you?" message. Maybe it's because ever since I was a youngling I was taught to NEVER EVER talk to strangers...and I suppose the lesson just stuck with me...carrying over into my Internet world. I mean we've all seen "to catch a predator" on Dateline, and heard all the stories of evil men posing on websites...trying to coarse women into meeting their evil asses so they can do dark and despicable things to them (I know i'm being dramatic, but hey, that shiz is real!). And it's hard enough trying to figure someone out in person, let alone across the world wide web! I guess the whole idea of talking to some strange man on a social networking site just doesn't go over very well in my mind...but am I being unrealistic? Is facebook really the ideal dating tool of the NOW and FUTURE? I initially thought the site was just a cool way for me to stay in touch with people I ALREADY knew, but maybe its purposes have evolved...? I have a cousin whom I think is on every Internet dating site out there, and so far she hasn't had much luck with it. I mean she's met a few guys, but it never seems to work out. She's way older than me though, and I still refuse and don't think it's necessary for me to join any kind of Eharmony, Match-dot-com mess. However, I have decided to test the whole facebook dating theory, and I am in the process of seeing how the jig might possibly work (for the main purpose of this blog of course wink wink). I haven't met anyone who has ever turned a facebook meeting into an actual relationship. So, when I say testing, I mean responding, damn near slightly entertaining, the advances of ONE man (because my ass is too scary and not desperate) I don't know who sent me a message on the site. Of course I am being as careful and cautious as I can possibly be...but I feel after having little success meeting men the old fashioned way, this test just couldn't hurt. However, I am suuuuuper beyond skeptical, but only time will tell.

Bottom line: When I told my mom what I was doing, I think she immediately dropped down to her knees and starting praying. I know, I know, the whole thing makes me nervous too, but it's also kind of exciting at the same time cause it's something new and fun! I'll just have to let ya'll know how it goes.

Love: Testing a new theory.

I could've had a V8

Question: do women ever fake that big Ocean Wave?

YES! I would say more than half the time! A couple of weeks ago I got into this slightly heated convo with one of my best guy friends...let's call him the "soldier." He went on this rant about how if a woman doesn't reach that pot of gold at the end of the love making rainbow, it's totally her own fault (so selfish and ridiculous by the way!). He also went on to say that no girl has ever faked with him and blah blah blah. Of course I got suckered punched into his outlandish assumptions, and wittingly took to my soap box. My tone was loud, arms were flailing around, and I even stood up to get my point across. And then I stopped to think...you know he's right. It is OUR fault! I say this because us women are doing our men a disservice by allowing them to think they are hitting the target, when in all actuality they couldn't find the target if it was a centimeter from their face. The soldier then asked me, why would a woman even fake it in the first place? And I said, shaking my head, oh little grass hopper...as a woman I can say that it's just not realistic, for whatever unfair reason, for a gal to reach that pot of gold every time. Sometimes we're just distracted, not really feeling it...or a lot of the time it's just NOT GONNA HAPPEN. It is what it is. If you're with someone you love (hopefully you are) and care about deeply, it's an OK fact, and you'll do what you can to make sure somebody makes it to the mountain top. You don't want this person, who is, for lack of a better word, inside of you, to feel like a failure or like he's not doing his job...so the fake is an ego stroke...an ego boost...a selfless act of dedication for your man. You know the intimacy is what carries a lot of the weight in the heart of a woman anyway. But if you're not with someone you love, well, uh, that will probably just be his last show at the theater. Anywhoozle, I think it's time for ladies to start being a little more honest. Yes, the conversation can be awkward, and uncomfortable, but we can't continue to let our men walk around thinking they're the MAN, thinking they're doing all the right things, pleasing you every time, when it's just NOT the case. I mean, I have a friend who's NEVER EVER had one EVER (it's a tragic case I know). Now, there are some of my female counterparts who boast about ALWAYS being able to finish the race successfully (I don't believe any of you lol), and if that's the case, they've been blessed. But for the majority of us, naaaaaaawwww.

Bottom line: Only 29-percent of women say they always reach a climax during sex.

I'm not trying to be loomy gloomy, I love you fellas, I just want to give you some perspective, straight, no chaser. I can't let guys, like my friend, the soldier, continue to be ignorant about this issue.

Love: in recovery.
